The most frequently asked questions about refilling are answered below. For quick access to specific subjects, click on the categories to the left.
- What are the advantages of refilling an inkjet cartridge?
You save a lot of money on your cartridge purchase AND it is good for the environment since you get to reuse your cartridge. Also, with a machine-controlled fill process and your own personal well-cared-for cartridge, you will get excellent print quality.
- What is an OEM cartridge?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEM's such as Apple, Canon, Compaq, Dell, Epson, Hewlett Packard, and Lexmark are the companies that produce your inkjet printer as well as the original printer cartridge that is used in it.
- Will refilling my cartridge void the OEM's warranty on my printer?
Federal law prohibits a manufacturer from voiding your machine's warranty simply by using alternative cartridge solutions.
- What is a "remanufactured" cartridge? How is refilling different?
The cartridge remanufacturing process typically involves: 1) collecting empty original cartridges, 2) transporting the empty cartridges to a central processing facility, 3) refurbishing the cartridges by cleaning and replacing some components as necessary, 4) refilling them with ink, and 5) re-labelling them as remanufactured under a brand name that is not the original manufacturer. In contrast, consumers who do "direct refilling" by dropping off their cartridges at reputable retailers will usually receive their own personal cartridge at pick-up. The simpler direct refilling of "fresh" cartridges is more reliable and consumes less energy than the complex remanufacturing process, which results in better cartridge refill quality that is more beneficial to the environment.
